Countries must pay for the gas that Russia sells them in rubles
Vladimir Putin

President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will begin asking for payments for natural gas shipments from all countries that are considered unfriendly in rubles.

The announcement was made after the United States, together with its allies, imposed certain economic sanctions for the war it unleashed in Ukraine.

It is important to note that Russia is the one who sells gas to various countries of the European Union, the United States and Canada.

Putin informed at a meeting with members of the Russian Government that he decided to implement, as soon as possible, certain measures to transfer payments received for natural gas by unfriendly countries in rubles.

The Russian government had already detailed days ago that they are preparing a list of sanctions against several countries, after they did it with Russia, after starting the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

Likewise, Vladimir Putin indicated that Russia will have to stop accepting payments in currencies that have been compromised. However, the country will continue to supply gas in the volumes established in previous contracts.

As for the freezing of Russian assets abroad, Vladimir Putin defines it as illegitimate. The president points out that the European Union and the United States declared it a real breach of their responsibilities to the country.

Putin insisted that now everyone knows that dollar obligations must be breached.
