Emmanuel Macron, in his meeting with Vladimir Putin, raised ways for diplomatic solutions in which he managed to agree with the Russian president, and would have informed the leaders of Germany and Poland.

Macron told the leaders of Germany and Poland that he obtained a double commitment after his meetings in Russia and Ukraine so that the agreements are respected. He assured that he trusts that practical solutions were reached for the cessation of the conflict.

The three countries agreed to join efforts from their governments, led by Macron, who held a meeting in Moscow with Vladimir Putin and later with the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky.

According to Macron's statements, Putin would have considered that some approaches could be the beginning of progress as a whole. In addition, he would have promised to withdraw his troops from Belarus when the military exercises end in February.

One of the proposals would be for both countries to assume the commitment not to initiate more military movements, the opening of a dialogue table on Russia's military device and meetings to preserve peace in Ukraine.

On the other hand, the chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, assured that under the format of the "Weimar Triangle", which has been inactive for eight years, he joins the efforts to preserve European peace.

Also, the Polish president, Andrzej Duda, assured to trust in the proposal, still confidential, of the president of France. He affirmed that there are indeed possibilities of avoiding a war, however, he pointed out that Europe had not been in such danger since the Second World War.

European Union aligned

Macron pointed out that the crisis that is being experienced cannot be underestimated, and that this crisis cannot be resolved in a few meetings. Similarly, he explained that Putin has assured that there will be no military escalation by Russia.

On the other hand, he assures that Zelenski was hopeful about the Normandy summit that will take place on Thursday in Berlin, which will be composed of the leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine.

Regarding the objectives of Duda and Scholz, of guaranteeing European peace, Emmanuel Macron added that the mission would be to maintain European cohesion, highlighting the value of the Weimar Triangle meeting for these objectives.

Currently, France and Germany have shown a diplomatic approach, while Poland has been seen with a more hard stance. However, Germany hopes that the Weimar triangle will recalibrate Europe's approach to Russia.

Lukasz Maslanka, spokesman for the Polish Institute of International Affairs, declared that Poland agrees with Berlin on the need to guarantee a transatlantic union towards Moscow, and with France, so that diplomatic interests prevail over economic benefits in the short term, as the NordStream 2 pipeline.

Secretary of State of Poland Andrzej Dera pointed out that the main disagreements between Germany, France and Eastern European countries are about the magnitude of military support to Ukraine, and the measures to be implemented to prevent a Russian attack.

He added that the main objective is to build a unitary political front, regardless of the fact that in the past there have been statements by German politicians who argued otherwise "now it seems that we speak with one voice."
