Felipe Calderón does not rule out competing in the 2021 elections in Mexico
Interviewed by Ciro Gómez Leyva on Radio Formula, former Mexican President Felipe Calderón declared: "I don't know if I'm going to appear on the ballot for the 2021 elections, but we are determined to look for the best women and the best men in the country".
In that interview, the former president spoke about his political aspirations within his Free Mexico party. He did not rule out competing for a popularly elected position in 2021.
Felipe Calderón was president of Mexico for the period 2006 to 2012 when he was the winner in the closest presidential election in the country's history, when the Electoral Court validated his victory by 0.56% more votes than Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who is currently the Executive Head.
Felipe Calderón Hinojosa and the Secretary of Security, Alfonso Durazo, had a clash on Thursday the 4th of this month, due to the serious events that occurred in the crisis that is taking place in the Federal Police due to the refusal of its elements to join the National Guard. It was even mentioned that the former president would be manipulating the agents so that the stoppage continued despite the progress in the negotiations.
Regarding Alfonso Durazo, former President Felipe Calderón thanked the Secretary of Security for the free publicity he has given his party. "I want to thank Durazo for the enormous propaganda he is doing to México Libre ; it is clear that they are terrified that we are participating in politics and that we are organizing ourselves," he said in the radio interview.
Likewise, he called on citizens to join his party. Let us remember that in previous statements he has expressed that Mexico needs candidates "who truly represent citizens in public office to criticize the government." And demonstrate greater transparency in public accountability.
