Five-year-old girl dies after being tortured for weeks by her mother and stepfather
In San Antonio, Texas
According to the first police reports, the little girl's body had bruises, scratches, missing hair, some nails, and even two teeth.
Mercedes Losoya, only five years old, died last Monday, February 7, after being brutally torture by the hands of her mother and stepfather in San Antonio, Texas.
That Monday, her mother Katrina Mendoza, 22, took the girl to the emergency room at Southwest General Hospital in San Antonio, Texas; where the doctors received her unconscious, with multiple cuts and bruises on various parts of her body.
Despite the efforts made by medical personnel, the little girl did not survive.
Three weeks of torture against Mercedes Losoya
The parent told the authorities that the abuse against the girl began three weeks earlier, when she herself asked her partner, José Ángel Ruiz, 25, to help her "discipline" the girl.
According to the first police reports, the little girl's body had bruises, scratches, missing hair, some nails, and even two teeth.
It was learned that Ruiz came to collect dog feces and put it forcibly in the minor's mouth. In addition, on another occasion he soaked a sock with urine and put it in her mouth, and when he took it out, he pulled out her teeth with the force exerted.
The stepfather also beat her with a leather belt and with his hands full of rings, which would have left marks on the girl's legs.
Mother and stepfather arrested
Last Thursday, February 10, Katrina Rose Mendoza and José Ángel Ruiz were arrested, accused of having tortured Mercedes Losoya to death.
When questioned, the couple accused each other. While Mendoza was booked into a Texas prison, Ruiz was released on bond.
For the time being, the San Antonio authorities withdrew Katrina from custody of her 6-year-old daughter, Jordyn; and they are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine if they will charge the couple with more.
