Governor Ricardo Rosselló will not resign: protests continue in Puerto Rico

The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, announced that he will not run for the 2020 elections and that he will not be leaving office either. These statements are made after leaking some of Rosselló's private chats with other political members, where they make fun of various world-renowned figures.

In this way, Ricardo Rosselló announced that he will resign as president of his party, the New Progressive Party (PNP). In addition, he will not participate in future elections, leaving aside the political sphere. All this was assured in a video given on the Facebook Live platform:

I must be respectful of the constitutional order and I welcome the process begun by the Legislative Assembly, which I will confront with all the truth, force, and responsibly. I recognize that apologizing is not enough. Only my work will help restore confidence

These are Rosselló's first public statements after filtering all the content of his private chats, through a study carried out by the Center for Investigative Journalism (CPI), where more than 900 pages of private chats of this governor can be observed and all the members of his team.

All this matter has made the people of Puerto Rico take to the streets to protest, demanding the resignation of Ricardo Rosselló. They have already been taking place for 10 days and have already transcended echoes around the world.

For now, Rosselló remains firm in the decision to continue exercising his political position until it ends. On the other hand, he sought to reduce the tension by announcing his resignation from the PNP and by deciding not to participate in any other type of election held in the nation of Puerto Rico.

Ricky Martin, Residente and Luis Fonsi join protests to request the resignation of Ricardo Rosselló

A large community of artists have come together these days to demand the resignation of Governor Rosselló. In this way, artists such as Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, Residente and Bad Bunny have joined the protests to request Rosselló's resignation from his political position.

Bad Bunny and Residente released a topic talking about the whole case that is shaking Puerto Rico. It has the title of "Sharpening the Knives" and has a duration of 5:19 minutes.

Recently, Ricky Martín published a video on his social networks requesting that the Puerto Rican authorities initiate a case against Rosselló and that the corresponding sentence be applied for said discriminatory acts and of other kinds that were observed in the ruler's private chats:

Ricardo Rosselló you are not only cynical, you are also Machiavellian. What you just did is with that message you just gave is to play with the mental health of Puerto Ricans.
