Joe Biden announced new measures in the country to counteract the heat wave
President Biden announced the measures from the premises of a former coal-fired power plant.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, announced on Wednesday the application of new measures to combat the heat wave that has flooded the North American country and among them, the approval of new funds for the most affected communities.

From the facilities of an old coal power plant in Somerset, Massachusetts, which is currently a cable factory for offshore wind farms, Biden, in his speech, stated that the White House is committed to attacking the problem that invades to the US even if Congress does nothing about it.

It is noteworthy that just as these funds will be used to help communities, the president also added that through the Department of Health and Human Services, low-income citizens will be helped to beat the heat.

The White House chief executive said he "will use his executive powers to combat the climate crisis in the absence of congressional action." In the same way, he also reported that scientists have warned of a red alert for humanity with this heat wave.

A White House official stated that the measures to be applied are part of the strategy of "turning the climate crisis into an opportunity", among them are the actions to promote wind energy.

"The President continues to fight the urgent national security and economic threat of climate change, and tomorrow's actions will be a continuation of the decisive climate steps the President has taken since day one," the official said.

Notably, in his speech, Biden did not call this wave a national climate emergency. It is not part of the actions that the president will apply this week, but if these measures are taken, other resources could be used to help deal with the heat that invades the region.

The official also stated that Joe Biden would continue announcing in the following days the executive actions already prepared to combat climate change.

In the same way, he also added that the funds destined for the affected communities will be obtained from the FEMA Building Infrastructure and Resilient Communities program.
