More than 500,000 people have fled Ukraine according to the UN
Michelle Bachelet fears the increase in the number of civilian deaths in Ukraine
In an inaugural session of the Human Rights Council, Michelle Bachelet, High Commissioner of the United Nations (UN), explained that the current war in Ukraine puts countless lives at risk in the country.
He also explained that there are more than 102 civilians who have died in Russia since the Russian military invasion of Ukraine began last Thursday.
In his office he has received reports of 406 incidents involving civilians, including the deaths of 102 people, including seven minors, and 304 people injured.
It also indicated that most of the civilians killed were the result of explosive weapons with a wide impact area in the bombardments carried out with heavy artillery and different multiple rocket launch systems.
Bachelet stresses that she fears an increase in the current figures.
In addition, he indicated that, to protect themselves from the explosions, many Ukrainian civilians, including the elderly and vulnerable, are currently forced to huddle in various types of bomb shelters, including subway stations.
Filippo Grandia, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said he had increased the number of refugees who escaped the Russian military invasion of Ukraine to 500,000.
