Seven countries met in the last hours to discuss the environmental crisis in the Amazon. The exact number of hectares burned is not yet known, but it is believed that thousands of kilometers of forest have disappeared, especially in Brazil and Bolivia.

The meeting was held in Leticia, capital of the department of Amazonas in Colombia. The countries that attend are Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Suriname, Guyana, Peru and Brazil. What the representatives are looking for is to establish a cooperation mechanism. In this way, begin to persecute those who use the forest to exploit gold, extract wood or carry out illegal agricultural activities.

However, the main problem for which these countries have decided to unite is the corruption that exists in these areas. The idea is to coordinate logistical and military support to end those who sow terror in the Amazon rainforest.

What they are looking for is a cooperation that benefits not only the partner countries, but the entire planet, since the Amazon is considered a lung for the world. Now, the presidents seek to create a Pact for the Amazon, which guarantees judicial and military controls in the region and begins an afforestation route in the Amazon.

Bolsonaro did not attend the event, but sent a representative. Brazil has been harshly criticized for not accepting international support or at least trying to set its own conditions to accept it.

Tensions with Brazil rose after Bolsonaro called Macron's wife "A terribly ugly woman," and demanded that the French president apologize to his government for allegations made in the past.
