They verify that Mauricio Leal was murdered by his brother
Jhonier Leal accepted the charges
Jhonier Leal took the lives of his brother and mother, presumably out of envy and to dispossess them of their properties.
This case has not only shaken Colombia, but the entire world. Not only because he died suddenly and quickly along with his mother, but because it was thought to be a matricide and the real person responsible was his own brother, Jhonier Leal.
Stylist Mauricio Leal, who did hair and makeup for great stars and celebrities from Colombia, was found dead in a bed next to his mother on November 21 of last year, in what was allegedly a matricide.
On Tuesday the case was clarified, throwing his brother Jhonier Leal, 49 years old, as the only culprit.
The story of Mauricio Leal
Leal, was a 47-year-old hairdresser and according to testimonies of people close to him, his childhood was hard and traumatic for different reasons, including economic problems.
This popular stylist and his mother, Marleny Hernández, appeared stabbed on November 21 on the bed of one of the rooms of the luxurious house where they lived, in a house in the city of Bogotá.
Mauricio Leal was born in Cartago, Valle del Cauca and lived most of his childhood in the coffee region. When he was 17 years old, he started as a hair washer and cleaning assistant in various hair salons.
Several of his ventures failed, but when he was 21 years old he began to work in a beauty center where misses and celebrities from his country were treated, and thus he began to make himself known and grow in the environment.
For his part, his brother did not progress or advance in anything he undertook, and although on social networks he seemed to be happy with his brother's success, many say that his jealousy and envy of his brother's progress was noticeable. But... Why did he also murder his mother? What was her fault in this matter?
These are questions that still do not have answers and only one person can clarify them: Jhonier Leal.
The investigations
The bodies were found lifeless by the barber's driver, Jair Ruíz, who arrived at the scene together with Jhonier Leal.
Ruíz was worried about the well-being of his boss, who never misses work, and that day he had written to him in the morning to tell him that he would stay home resting, because he didn't feel like working.
When the driver found them lifeless, he immediately informed Jhonier and he in turn told the police, who found a letter handwritten by the stylist that said:
"I love you. Forgive me, I can't take it anymore. I leave everything to my nephews and brothers. With all my love, forgive me mom."
So everything pointed to Mauricio murdering his mother and then taking his own life.
Despite this, it was quickly learned that when Mauricio was wounded and under the effect of tranquilizers, he was forced to write said letter. All as a strategy of the brother to make everything look like a suicide, and not what it was, a vile and cruel murder.
The investigations yielded many results that did not coincide with the typical matricide, among these; the unusual way in which the stabbings were carried out and the way in which the bodies were found, in addition to other details at the crime scene.
However, it was not until this Tuesday, January 18, when Jhonder Leal, brother of the deceased stylist and son of Mariely Hernández, also murdered, declared that he had made the decision, voluntarily and freely, to accept the charges, through an agreement with the prosecution.
"I take advantage of my opportunity to make my statement of repentance asking my family for forgiveness first," Leal said before a judge in Bogotá.
The fratricide and parricide was captured by police authorities in Bogotá, in an emblematic operation, closely followed by the people who were on the lookout for the case.
Investigation professionals agreed from the beginning that Jhonier Leal was the main suspect in the double crime, since in the various interviews they conducted with him, he had many contradictions and did not show any kind of pain or sadness for what happened.
One of the things that stood out in the analysis of the authorities was a wound that Jhonier had on his hand, and that once he explained that he did it with scissors and on another occasion he said that it had been with a rustic wall. Which did not coincide in any way.
In the hearings held, the prosecutor in charge of the case reported that the declared murderer, who lived in the house of both victims, first killed his mother while she was sleeping and then walked to Mauricio's room and wounded him, but the weapon was he left and was forced to look for another knife in the kitchen to finish his act.
After murdering them, he moved their bodies to Mauricio's room, wearing gloves so as not to leave traces or evidence of his crime.
The cause of the crime
It is estimated that Mauricio Leal, being a hairdresser and stylist for Colombian personalities such as: Fanny Lu, Andrea Serna, Carolina Cruz, Lina Tejeiro, Carolina Guerra and Jessica Cediel, had a fortune of more than one million dollars.
For this reason and in an indolent way, a few days after the double death of his relatives, Jhonier had already begun to process the transfer of his brother's assets. So it is presumed that this was one of the main reasons for the vile murder.
The perfect crime does not exist
To add more details to the above, it was learned that none of the doors or windows of the house where the event occurred was forced.
Additionally, security cameras showed no evidence that anyone entered the property. The prosecutor was insistent with Jhonier Leal, telling him that the perfect crime does not exist, and although he planned everything for several days, the truth always came to light.
Leal, by accepting the charges of murder aggravated by kinship, by a state of defenselessness and cruelty, concealment, alteration or destruction of material evidence, could be sentenced between 45 and 50 years, but will receive a reduction of half of the sentence for recognizing your responsibility.
