The boat had set sail shortly before the port of "Gracias a Dios",Honduran department that borders the Caribbean coast. In local press reports it was learned that the captain of the boat, Austin Hyalock Almendares, was the one who reported the shipwreck of the boat under his charge before sinking with the other victims.

The 70-ton ship "Francely" left when the end of the lobster fishing ban was formally announced. The Honduran population is dismayed by this fatal accident in which dozens of fishermen who went out to earn bread for their family lost their lives.

Previous accident without fatalities

On the same day and with just a difference of hours before the shipwreck of the Francely boat, another boat was shipwrecked in the area. Fortunately, in that case there were no fatalities and the rescue of 40 people who were on board was achieved. It should be noted that the ship had a maximum capacity of 31 people, so the authorities demand greater compliance with the regulations in this regard from the captains and ship managers.

Lobster fishing moves a good part of the local economy of the coastal towns in the area and it is not surprising that many fishermen enlist in the boats, leading to an excess of labor that the captains and boat owners try to occupy, however, prudence prevails, especially now with such a fatal accident.

Captain José Meza, of the Honduran Armed Forces, pointed out that 47 people were rescued from the shipwreck of the Francely ship and are being treated by paramedics and rescuers, some being transferred to specialized medical care centers due to their situation.
