Ukraine filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice
In the issued document, Ukraine denies acts of genocide in Donbas.
This Sunday the reception of Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia in which it accuses Moscow of having carried out acts of genocide was confirmed. This was done before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
In the lawsuit, Ukraine details that Russia "is intentionally killing and inflicting serious injury on members of Ukrainian nationality."
For this reason, they requested before the high court of the United Nations Organization (UN), to apply restrictive measures against Moscow, so that irreparable damage to the rights of Ukraine and its citizens is avoided, and that the dispute between both parties.
In the complaint, Kiev relies on the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which is a treaty signed by both parties, made in 1948.
In this way, Ukraine emphatically denies that its Army is carrying out acts of genocide in Donbas, as indicated by Moscow.
Likewise, Volodímir Zelenski, president of Ukraine, explained that he expects the ICJ to hold oral hearings this week.
At the moment, the UN high court has not confirmed when the trial will take place. However, he explained that, since it is a request with precautionary measures, it will have priority over litigation.
This case between Ukraine and Russia would not be the first dealt with by the ICJ. In November 2019, the court in The Hague was also declared competent to judge Moscow's support for the extension militias of Donbas. This lawsuit remains in the written pleadings phase.
