WHO warns that the opportunity to extinguish Covid during 2022 is wasted

The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that the possibility of extinguishing the pandemic during this 2022 "runs a growing risk of wasting it."

He also warned that the low rate of positive cases in countries with a higher number of vaccinated populations has created a "false narrative that the pandemic is ending."

He also stressed that in addition to this, some governments do few tests to detect the virus, "which creates the ideal conditions for new variants of the coronavirus to emerge," Tedros said.

During a conference of Global Action against Covid 19, the WHO director general pointed out that 116 countries are at risk of not meeting the goal of 70% of citizens immunized against the virus by the middle of the year.

On the other hand, Tedros extended a call to the great economic forces of the world to support and facilitate 16 billion dollars to promote the "ACT Accelerator", whose program is promoted by the WHO for the distribution of vaccines.

"We urgently need support from political leaders to accelerate the distribution of vaccines," he said.

Similarly, he took the opportunity to request the creation of new technology transfer centers such as the one in South Africa, whose purpose is the development of vaccines with the "messenger RNA" method, which has proven highly effective in defending against the coronavirus.
