Will Smith banned for 10 years from the Oscars – News – WebMediums
The directors of the Academy made the decision this Friday.

The decision was made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the managing body of the Oscars. This Friday he announced that the actor could not attend any event linked to the Oscars for ten years, a decision that Will accepted.

"Today, the Board of Governors convened a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith's actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation," Academy officials said.

Will's resignation is linked to his vote within the Academy, however, this decision does not prevent him from being nominated for the award in the future. Actors like Jim Carrey express that if he were Chris Rock, he would have sued the actor for his actions.

Added to this, the Academy in a statement apologizes for its late performance mentioning that they were not prepared for an incident like the one that occurred.

“During our broadcast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this, we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short, unprepared for something unprecedented."

It should be noted that this meeting of the Board of Governors was initially scheduled for April 18, but was brought forward because the actor Will Smith decided last week to resign from the Academy.

“The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many people in our community who did incredible work last year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw from Mr. Smith on stage,” the letter also states.

On March 27 during the Oscars, Will punched comedian Rock in the face after he made a comment about his wife's alopecia, alluding to Lieutenant O'Neill from the GI Jane movie. by actress Demi Moore in 1997.

On the other hand, comedian Chris Rock in one of his shows after the event commented:

"I don't have a ton of sh*t about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I had you as a whole show that I wrote before this weekend. And I'm still processing what happened, so at some point I'll talk about that sh*t. And it will be serious and fun. But right now I'm going to tell some jokes."

The Academy expressed its deep appreciation to Rock for the way he made the unpleasant situation a part of the show. Will subsequently publicly apologized to the comedian and actor as well as the show's producer.

The Police Department was ready to arrest Smith for the assault, but Rock gave notice that he did not want this to happen.
