On Saturday, Michelle Alyssa Go, a 40-year-old Asian woman, was attacked and killed when she was pushed onto the New York subway train tracks at the Time Square station. The man involved remains in custody.
Police sources told the New York Daily News that the incident happened at approximately 9:30 in the morning. The victim was run over by the R line train, which was arriving at the time.

The person involved in the murder is a 61-year-old man named Simón Martial. He would have escaped on a train to the south of Manhattan.
A short time later, he confessed to the Traffic Police what he had done and was automatically arrested.
Martial has a criminal history that includes several previous arrests, in addition to having been on probation.
New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell stated that this incident was unprovoked and that the victim had no interaction with the detainee.
As part of the police statements at a press conference, it was assured that before the attack on the 40-year-old woman, Simón attacked another woman on the platform. After this, he pushed Michelle.
He closed in on the first victim, invading her space. The woman walked away, as she became concerned about the individual's presence. It is certainly noticeable in the recordings that she was afraid of being pushed onto the train.
Later, he sees how he pushes the woman who died onto the train, becoming a witness to the crime.
Insecurity at the station
The authorities had announced a week ago that they would be in charge of reinforcing the police presence in the subway stations. They would be sending groups of specialists to deal with the presence of homeless people, in train cars and at different stations.
Different cases of attacks have happened at the station. Stabbings, assaults, and people being pushed have been seen at stations in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Time Square.
The mayor of the city, Eric Adams, indicated that this insecurity will cause the decrease in the use of the train by citizens. So the economic recovery of the city will be affected.
State Senator John Liu calls for immediate action to be taken for Asian people suffering from mental health after being attacked.
It also ensures through a statement that Asian citizens living in New York City and throughout the United States are constantly suffering hate attacks.
Cases against Asians increased in the city last year. Police data showed that there was a 361% increase in these incidents.
