Saturnino, with 112 years the oldest man in the world.

Saturnino De la Fuente was about to turn 113 on February 12 and according to information given by his relatives, this man from León has died at his residence, located on "Doctor Fleming" avenue in the capital of León.

The EFE news agency published that according to statements given by a source close to the deceased, the man left the earth at approximately eleven o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, January 18.

"He started breathing very hard after eating his breakfast and seconds later it went out like that, like a candle," a relative of the deceased reported.

With 112 years and 221 days of life, he was awarded the recognition of "Longest Man in the World". Achievement that was disputed with a Puerto Rican who claimed to have been born a few months before Saturnino, but since he lacked documentation to certify his version, the Leonese won the Guinness Record.

It should be noted that although his identity document appears with the date of birth of February 11, 1909, Saturnino always stated that he was born several days earlier, exactly on the 8th of the same month.

Apart from the COVID-19 pandemic, this man also experienced the Spanish Flu epidemic, in addition to other historical events such as the Primo de Rivera dictatorship, the civil war and the Democratic Transition.

He had great hobbies, among them soccer, which led him to be an honorary member of the soccer team of the neighborhood where he was born.

He procreated 8 children, of which three have already passed away. But he has had the joy of seeing 22 great-grandchildren born.

Currently, the oldest individual in the world is Kane Tanaka, 118 years old and of Japanese origin. Until today, the person who has lived the longest in the world has been the French Jeanne Louise Calment, who was on this earth for 122 years with 164 days.
