Zelensky: Europe is safer if Ukraine joins the European Union
The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, asked the European Union on Tuesday, in the middle of his speech to the European parliament, to give evidence that they are on the side of Ukraine, in the face of the huge Russian invasion against his country.
Through his speech via videoconference, Zelensky assured that Europe will be safer if Ukraine is part of it, in addition, that without Europe, Ukraine will be alone.
He noted that Ukrainians are proving their strength and worth in defense of their country. The Ukrainian leader hopes that the European Union will immediately accept Ukraine's annexation to the Union.
Members of the European Parliament and other organizations in Europe are willing to grant Ukraine candidate nation status for accession, but full membership has even more difficult protocols.
Currently, the European Union is under enormous pressure to give Ukraine protection, but the process of joining the bloc of countries usually takes years, even a decade could pass while negotiations and reforms take place.
On Monday, the Ukrainian president signed the formal request for the annexation of Ukraine to the European Union, through a process classified as "special".
That same day, Charles Michel, president of the parliament, assured that the immediate incorporation of Ukraine into the European Union caused different opinions.
Currently, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia are waiting to be annexed to the European Union, on the other hand, Turkey has been aspiring to join since the 1980s, but the debate on its accession has been suspended since 2016.
Russian espionage in the United States
The United States authorities accused 12 members of the Russian diplomatic mission of espionage before the United Nations Organization ( UN ).
They pointed out that they were all expelled under the accusation of being intelligence agents who took advantage of their status to steal national security information, to later use them for the benefit of Russia.
On the other hand, Vassily Nebenzia, Russian ambassador to the United States, declared at the UN that 12 diplomatic members of Russia had been expelled, assured that the notification reached him during a press conference held on Monday, February 28.
He denounced that the United States had undertaken a new hostile action against Russia and its authorities, pointing out that it is a flagrant violation of the commitments assumed by the United States as the host country.
In this context, Olivia Dalton, spokeswoman for the US diplomatic mission, stated that the investigation had been in the making for some time, and it was determined that the Russian diplomats were acting as intelligence agents, she stressed that the action was not deliberate.
Likewise, Richard Mills, deputy UN ambassador, pointed out at the security council meeting that the operations carried out by Russian diplomats were not in accordance with the assigned responsibilities of a diplomat. The 12 members of Russia's diplomatic delegation who have been charged have until March 7 to leave the country.
