Katie Diane Meyer, 22, was on the Stanford University women's soccer team.

The young woman was found lifeless in her room on campus, so the entities in charge carry out the proper investigation to determine if it would have been a suicide. The world of women's soccer in the United States is in mourning.

Meter was born in Burbank, on January 20, 2000. His career as a soccer player began with the Newbury Park school team, and he also participated on different occasions in the country's youth selection process.

In Stanford Athletics she made history, equaling the lowest record in women's soccer, by scoring four goals throughout the season.

She was named as the team captain in 2020, as she was an important piece in goal. In parallel to his career as a footballer, he was also a student of International Relations specializing in History.

Katie earned the admiration of many when in 2019, she played a major role in a penalty shootout series against North Carolina and her team reached the NCAA title.

Mourning for Katie

The Stanford community indicated that this community has suffered a great loss and their love and thoughts go out to Katie's family and friends.

A letter was published on her website by the Stanford authorities, Bernard Muir and Susie Brubaker-Cole, in which they assure that the young woman was very committed to everything and everyone.

US Soccer is also part of those who mourn the loss of the soccer player. Joining this, the United States Women's Soccer League (NWSL), who also expressed their condolences to family and friends of the deceased.

Different soccer teams decided to have a minute of silence before starting their training day.

Reason for death

Standford University released a statement saying “Katie was a shining light to many on the field and in our community. We will mourn this great loss together and we will be here for each other."

The country and the world of women's football has been greatly affected by this news. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department indicated that they are continuing investigations to find out exactly the cause of his death.

From the beginning, the probability that it could be a crime was ruled out, since the first signs did not support this theory.

Through a statement, the authorities confirmed that the captain and goalkeeper died of a self-inflicted injury. There is no proof that third parties were involved in the tragedy.
