Athletic Bilbao's comeback in the LaLiga match day – Sports – WebMediums
Athletic is consolidated in eighth position, four points behind fourth place in the standings

This Monday the match corresponding to matchday 23 of LaLiga took place and the chosen place was the San Mamés stadium, which has become a kind of coliseum for the distinguished victories of the locals so far this year, such as the Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

Athletic Bilbao would host Espanyol Barcelona in a duel where Marcelino García only left three starters from the lineup that beat Real Madrid last Thursday in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals. These were Íñigo Martínez, Dani García and Raúl García.

For this reason, it was difficult for the home team to play their ball possession and counterattack game as usual, and in this way the Blue and Whites dominated the game and created several dangerous chances in the rival area.

Is worth noting that everything was defined in the first quarter of an hour. Three goals that would set the course for an entire match of struggle for control of the ball and for the comeback.

In this way, the first would arrive at minute 3, through Tonny Vilhena.

The play would come after a speed attack from the right by Javi Puado that would take out a creeping center that some defenses, with complicity, would let pass for the Dutchman to define with an unattainable shot for Unai Simón.

The tie would not be long in coming, since at minute 5, after a recovery of the 'lions', a long pass would take place to Raúl García that would appeal to the speed of Oihan Sancet, who remained in a one-on-one with Diego López and the Spaniard finished off at will to get the partial 1-1. The play was annulled by the referee, but the VAR would validate it.

Everything would be defined quickly, when at 16', Berenguer charged a foul near the Espanyol area, the shot would hit the barrier and give a high rebound that Dani Vivian would pay off and the central defender Íñigo Martínez would head to beat the goalkeeper who had come out and so the comeback would end.

The game was sentenced and barely 17 minutes had passed. The 'parakeets' would have the opportunity to tie the score on some occasions like Dimata's in half an hour of the game.

Practically, everything goes well for Athletic at home and with a risky approach they obtained the victory that consolidates them in eighth place with 34 points, just four behind Barcelona, which is in fourth position. Espanyol are in 13th place with 27 units.
