Messi wins his seventh Ballon d'Or

The Argentine Leo Messi has become this Monday the new winner of the Golden Ball at the Chateler Theater in Paris, who has received his seventh trophy as the best player in the world. So far, no other player in soccer history has achieved this number of Ballons d'Or.

A seventh trophy that allows him to once again increase the distance with respect to Cristiano Ronaldo who accumulates five Golden Ball trophies, who has been his great rival throughout this last decade in a wild career to be the best player in history.

It must be remembered that this is the individual award that all soccer players want and that the Argentine has once again been able to raise and add to what has been his history in this beautiful sport.

Main favorites for the Ballon d'Or

It has been possible to see a ritual very similar to the previous ones, but unlike the events of the Ballon d'Or held in years such as 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019 where he was the winner of the trophy, this time the celebration has been staying at home, a new experience for Leo Messi.

The Argentine arrived last August at the French club PSG, who this time raised this trophy organized by France Football magazine for the first time without being part of the Spanish club Barcelona's squad.

Which has meant a totally different party for Leo Messi, who has won this award just after being champion for the first time with his Argentine team after having already lost three finals with the national team.

Messi chosen as the best player of the year

The main events that have favored the Argentine to win the Ballon d'Or has been the title as top scorer in the last Spanish league, the conquest of the Copa del Rey with FC Barcelona and the Copa América championship with the Argentine team.

All these palmares have been essential results so that the forward was once again recognized as the best player of the year for the seventh time, becoming the top winner of this contest.

It must be remembered that for the year 2020 this award could not be given to anyone because of the pandemic, and that it had Robert Lewandowski as the moral winner because he appeared in all bets as the main favorite to win the Ballon d'Or, after an excellent career with Bayern Munich, with whom he held a sextet that year.

Again Robert Lewandowski was among the favorites for this year, but the votes of the 180 journalists who decided the award this year again favored the Argentine player who in 2021 shone much more with his team than with Barcelona and PSG.

The third place on the podium was occupied by the Italian Jorginho. Despite all the rumors that had been generated regarding the winner of this year's Ballon d'Or, the name of the Argentine player had begun to sound strongly, so there was not much surprise for many regarding the winner.

In the list of nominees there were also other star players such as Mbappé, Karim Benzema, Neymar, Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo who did not travel to Paris considering that this year he would not be a candidate to keep the trophy.

Throughout Monday afternoon, France Football, event organizers, were announcing the position they were occupying in the voting of the 30 finalists, where there were three Spaniards, Azpilicueta who occupied the 29th position, Gerard Moreno in the 26th place and Pedri 24th.

When the last five names were known, all the suspense was unleashed, news revealed by Didier Drogba, who was in charge of naming Leo Messi as the winner of this edition.

An Award that he received under the gaze of Antonella Roccuzzo and his three children, Mateo, Ciro and Thiago, as well as his great friend Luis Suárez.
