Microsoft will integrate advertising into free Xbox games
Free games, not only on Xbox, but on any other console (even PC) attracts many users. Some like Fortnite and others are under the free-to-play modality, they do not charge money to play it (I make purchases within the game).
This would be about to start to change, since Microsoft would be planning to integrate advertising in this type of video game. The main objective of the company is to open, in some way, the company to advertisers.
The information has been given by Business Insider, who has assured that Redmond would be working on the issue. In fact, they have also said that the company is already looking for companies related to advertising technology to take care of it.
Is it the end of or “free”?
This business model is not something new, many companies (especially those in the mobile sector) already include advertising. However, video game consoles had not delved into the subject.
This could be the end of “free and ad-free” gaming as we know it. These titles are typically funded in other ways, such as in-app purchases, premium access, and other types of content.
What effects can this have for the company?
The inclusion of advertising in free video games can be a counterproductive measure. Users may not like this, causing some to even consider switching consoles.
