Linux Lite 6 does not include Firefox for this new version.

Firefox and Chrome have always been the eternal rivals, despite the fact that Chrome has a much larger market share, when we talk about Linux, things change. Most distributions of this operating system include the Mozilla browser by default.

This has made it very important in this operating system, but it seems that now this is about to change. In the latest update of Linux Lite 6 we have that Firefox is not included by default, but Google Chrome.

What caused this change?

Chrome became the "logical" choice, after Firefox's withdrawal.

Of course this is one of those changes that is probably going to end up with a lot of angry users. However, as the team behind Linux Lite explained, they seek to ensure a good user experience.

The switch to Chrome is not due to a whim on the part of the development team, but rather due to problems with Snap. In the new version of Ubuntu, we have Firefox installed, but only in Snap format. That is why, to make life easier for users and make them use the package manager as little as possible, Chrome was chosen.

This is going to be a new stage in the life of the operating system, however, it is likely that over time, users will end up getting used to it.

What new features does Linux Lite 6 include?

This new version of the operating system has some interesting improvements.

This new update of Linux Lite 6 includes some features that are quite interesting and that you should take into account. Next, we will mention those that are most relevant.

  • This new version of Linux Lite 6 is updated from within and this time we see that it includes the new LTS version of Ubuntu, 22.04 LTS. Of course, this new update involves a large number of improvements, including kernel 5.15, Mesa 22 or Pulse Audio 16.

  • It includes version 4.16 of Xfce, one of the lightest desktops you can find on Linux. In addition, it has a renewed visual aspect, which makes the operating system look really good.

  • Some accessibility tools are also included, which make this easy to use for people with limited abilities.

  • What is most striking is probably the fact that it no longer has Firefox. When looking for a replacement for Mozilla's browser, the most logical choice was Chrome.

These are the most notable new features included in the operating system, however there are many others. If you are looking for a robust, light and friendly system, this is going to be an option that you should not ignore.
