Whale: a new browser made by Google's competition
It is no secret to anyone that Google's browser, Chrome, is the most popular of all time. However, behind it there are many other good browsers that compete with it. Even, every so often a new one appears that tries to take a piece of the cake.
This time, we have a new and interesting browser called Whale and which is made by NHN Corp. This is a company that is Google's direct competition in Korea and that will seek to dethrone it in that market.
Today, we are going to be talking a little more about this new browser and what are the main features that it includes.
What is NHN Corp?
NHN Corp. is a Korean technology company that, in that country, is considered Google's competition. It is a large corporation which offers a large number of services, including an email service, a search engine, a news agency, television channels and much more.
The new bet of this company is the Whale browser, which seeks to gain a place in the Korean market.
What is whale?
Whale is a browser that is based on Chromium and is available for both computers and Android. Being based on Chromium (just like browsers like Chrome, Edge or Opera) it has great performance.
Its appearance is the basic chromium with some aesthetic additions to make it more attractive. In general, this is a fairly good browser, however, it should be noted that it is not at the same level as Chrome or Edge.
But let's remember that this is hardly a first version, so it is likely that over time it could evolve.
One of the main things that can turn more than one back is that it is a browser that is mainly designed for Koreans. Although anyone can download it, it will feel very different from the rest.
This is not a bad thing, but it is something that can make more than one lose interest. However, if you are one of those people who likes to try new things, Whale is one that you cannot miss.
What are its main characteristics?
As we already mentioned, Whale is a Chromium-based project, so it has all the features that Chromium offers. However, the company has given it a special touch. And when we talk about “special”, we mean an integration with your applications.
Extensions : Whale has its own application store among which you will be able to find many interesting extensions. However, being based on Chromium, you will also be able to use Chrome without any problem.
Built -in ad blocker: Another feature that is appreciated is that it has a built -in ad blocker. This means that you do not need to download extensions that do this and end up lowering performance.
Mouse gestures : Some mouse gestures are also included to be able to perform some actions in an easy way.
Screenshots : You will be able to take screenshots directly from the browser, without having to resort to an extension.
Synchronization between devices : This is a very important feature and it allows you to send links, share history and save favorites between your mobile and your computer.
Dual tab: This is also quite a useful feature, allowing you to open two tabs at the same time. An ideal feature for work.
Available in Spanish : One of the greatest curiosities of this browser is that it is fairly well translated into Spanish. So if you want to download it, you won't have any problem.
A feature-rich sidebar
If you use Opera or Vivaldi, this is probably not a feature that will surprise you. However, this browser has a quite powerful and useful sidebar that has a large number of functions.
The truth is that it includes a large number of applications that can be added to this sidebar and that is a plus. It has direct access to Naver, integration with other messaging services such as Line or Facebook.
Additionally, it has a clock, alarm, calculator, calendar, currency converter, scrapbook and many other things. So, this sidebar is probably one of the most striking features that this browser has.
