It is said that a habit is a regular or daily practice that people do consciously or unconsciously; that is, they are behaviors that are part of a person's daily life.
We all have customs or lifestyles that we like, but that are not necessarily positive for our well-being.
In this sense, it seems that everything is harmful, from the food that we always liked, the habits that we always practice and even the way in which we were taught to relate to others.
Without thinking about it, there are many of our daily attitudes that harm us, and that we must avoid for a better well-being. Today I want to teach you about those habits that harm our physical and mental health.
Say goodbye to these 6 habits if you want to improve your lifestyle
Having good health does not happen by magic. Although there are people who without much effort are always healthy and strong, this does not happen in all cases.
Eating disorders, accelerated life and the most recent, the Covid-19 pandemic; It caused many people to worsen their lifestyle and, consequently, their physical, emotional and mental health.
Below you will learn about some habits or lifestyles that most people practice, but that are highly dangerous to health.
1. Living stressed
Many studies reveal that stress is a normal psychological process, produced by the human body in the face of a threatening or distressing event.
It is said that it is not fatal, but it is undoubtedly harmful to health, since when it becomes excessive it produces emotional and family problems, attention deficit, insomnia, lack of appetite, bad mood, hair loss, and even depression.
Stress can be defined as an excess of the present, that is, in most cases, it occurs when a person has many things to do at the same time and does not progress with any of them.
A strategy to overcome it and end this harmful habit is to go to a place alone, breathe, organize yourself internally and go and execute each of the things you have pending.
Things will not always go your way; but the important thing is to do it with love and passion.
2. Fast food consumption
One of the not so hidden pleasures of people is the consumption of fast food and excess sugars. And although the taste may be pleasant to the palate, it is not for the human body.
The World Health Organization (WHO) considers that the excessive consumption of sugar and fast/processed food is one of the main causes of obesity and type 2 diabetes in the world; in addition to dental problems, hypertension and even cancer.
Fast food is high in saturated fat, which increases the cholesterol level in individuals who consume it and therefore triggers cardiovascular and obesity problems.
The most advisable thing is to prepare food at home and thus control what is ingested, whether it is fat or sugar.
3. Lead a sedentary life
After smoking, sedentary lifestyle is the second reason for death due to obesity in the world.
Having an inactive life triggers problems in the musculoskeletal system, weakening and causing serious diseases such as: arthritis and osteoporosis, apart from obesity and depression.
Staying seated or lying down for long periods of time (more than 6 hours), whether for pleasure or due to work requirements, is harmful in every way.
Constant inactivity has been shown to significantly reduce life expectancy and furthermore. It is not difficult to get out of inactivity, it is just a matter of determination.
Taking a 20-minute walk a day, dancing to two or three songs a day, or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator are small steps that produce big results in human life.
4. Sleep little and badly
In the process of sleeping, the body and mind relax significantly. Consciousness is partially or totally suspended and the work of the organism also decreases.
When you do not rest for the recommended time (minimum 8 hours), or sleep with the television and/or radio on, the body is seriously affected; producing alterations in concentration, memory and mood.
Not sleeping well is a very bad habit that can have other effects, such as:
Changes in body temperature,
Incrise of cardiac frecuency
Increased secretion of cortisol (the so-called stress hormone)
Increased blood glucose levels, which is known as blood sugar.
My recommendation is to respect your dream and avoid disturbing it as much as possible.
5. Being lonely
Solitude is good but only for a few minutes, to meditate, plan, meet with God and with ourselves. When it becomes routine or part of a person's life, it can cause physical and emotional damage.
And it is that living without company produces bad habits that affect the metabolism, the nervous system and the mind of people.
Entertain yourself, enjoy with friends or family, produces happiness and therefore, well-being in all senses. Laughing is a highly recommended habit to improve the physical and psychological state; and laughing together is much better.
6. Excessive consumption of alcohol and cigarettes
Everything in excess is harmful, and many people know it.
A drink at a special moment or in a celebration does not cause great harm, but the extreme consumption of alcoholic beverages produces great effects on the health, mind, family and even on the personal and family economy.
Similarly, the consumption of cigarettes is a practice that does not generate benefits of any kind, quite the contrary; it triggers respiratory and lung diseases, which can affect the health of the family nucleus and even cause death.
Getting out of where you are used to seeming like a difficult task, but if there is willpower, decision and clear objectives, everything is possible.
The ideal is to change little things every day and when you least expect it, you will have significantly transformed your routines and habits. Your mind and body will thank you.
