Discover the advantages and disadvantages of consuming eggs
The egg is a delicious food, easy to get and quite inexpensive. It has a wide variety of spindles within our meals and has been recommended by many nutritionists as part of a balanced diet.
Today I want to teach you everything about this food and the negative and positive contributions it gives to your food.
Industrial characteristics of the egg
It is versatile, we can include the egg in all our meals, incorporated into different recipes or as a side.
It is easy to assimilate, since it has one of the best sources of natural proteins, it is used as a protein reference by the World Health Organization to determine the value of proteins contained in foods in general.
Low in calories and balanced in fat, since it only contains between 70 and 80 calories per egg with only 5 grams of fat.
Including it in our daily diet is one of the best decisions
The truth is that egg consumption does not negatively influence our health, on the contrary it is a good source of nutrients, however it is important to bear in mind that it may not be for everyone.
People with type 2 diabetes should be careful with the consumption of eggs, since a Harvard University study found that the highest intake of this food by this group was associated with an increased cardiovascular risk.
Similarly, people who have had difficulty using medications that counteract high blood cholesterol levels should ensure that the consumption of eggs is moderate to low to prevent any possible consequences.
It is also important to mention that the option of replacing the egg yolk with white, reducing cholesterol levels is beneficial, we can enjoy a more balanced breakfast if we increase the amount of egg white.
We do not have to deprive ourselves of the nutrients in this food, and in general we can consume it without problems unless it is part of the aforementioned group.
Although studies are sometimes confusing, they do not provide enough evidence to make us believe that egg consumption can be harmful to health, it is possible to consume eggs 6 days a week.
For most people, eggs are a beneficial ingredient that provides great nutrients and helps the optimal balance of a healthy diet without generating unfavorable health consequences.
So if the egg is so good, why has it been so questioned?
Due to recent studies that found various irregularities about its consumption, for example the fact that it was associated with the risk of suffering from vascular diseases.
It was also found, in another study, that more than 500,000 people who consumed an egg daily, increased their risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal problems, as well as a greater probability of suffering from high cholesterol.
Isn't this contradictory? Indeed, the studies are not totally enlightening on whether the consumption of eggs is more beneficial than harmful, however to better understand all this we must take into account that:
1. These studies measured participants' egg consumption only once at baseline, that is, they do not assure us that the same participants changed their diet at some point in the study.
2. The conclusions drawn by this study are exaggerated, stated Ada Garcia, senior professor of nutrition for public health at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
3. Explain that putting all the responsibility for diseases on the consumption of eggs is simplistic, because diseases have more complex sources of appearance than the exclusive consumption of food.
We see then that the most relevant association of the egg that leads to so many questions is its relationship with cholesterol. The egg contains a significant percentage of cholesterol in its composition, provided by its characteristically yellow yolk.
But it does not have saturated fats or trans fats, the true ones responsible for the increase in harmful cholesterol in people.
So stopping egg consumption is not really helpful to control cholesterol, because the cholesterol that eggs provide is good, and in conjunction with all the beneficial properties that we mentioned above, it has more benefits than disadvantages.
