Protests in Hong Kong achieved their mission and the extradition bill is canceled

After long weeks of protests and political discussion, Carrie Lam, head of the autonomous government, has stated that the extradition bill has been partially canceled, which does not convince the protesters.

It has been the most chaotic 13 weeks in Hong Kong. The protesters have blocked everything from a small park in the city to the international airport. As a sign that the way is to eliminate this project completely, there was an increase in the Hong Kong stock market of 3%, although the protesters say that this pronouncement really came too late.

The protesters consider that the damage that this project has caused is the fault of the government, which in the end ended up giving what it had planned from day one. Now, the protesters assure that the project has not been completed in its entirety and that they only want a calm stage so that tempers calm down and the forces divide.

This hypothesis that the autonomous government still wants to approve the project arises as October 1 is approaching, the day on which the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China is celebrated.

"It is a smokescreen, with the intention of dividing us," said the leaders of the demonstrations, who also assure that the government is trying to divert the attention of the international and local press. They also added that the violence in the protests is due to a self-defense response, pointing to the Hong Kong police as responsible for the unrest.

However, what started as a single demand to withdraw the agreement turned into a larger list of demands. Among them is the creation of a commission in charge of monitoring the behavior of the police and the excessive use of force.

For now, Carrie Lam told public opinion that she did not approve of the demands of the protesters, who were looking for a more democratic, safe, economic and socially friendly country.
