USA: Nurse recounts her experience adopting the son of her patient who died of cancer
Tricia Somers and her son Wesley

A mother with very advanced cancer decided to give custody of her son to the nurse who took such great care of her.

In the United States, Tricia Seaman, a nurse in the oncology branch, has been applauded by many people over the years. This has been mostly due to his great work and the love he has for his patients, as his colleagues have declared to CBS News.

One of the biggest compliments was given to Tricia Somers, one of her patients, who was suffering from terminal cancer.

Somers commented eight years ago that before Tricia said anything, she was comforted. "I've never felt anything like this before, or any other connection to anyone else," she exclaimed.

Somers, was a single mother with an 8-year-old son. At the time, their son, Wesley, was discovering the cancer status of his mother, who was hospitalized in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It was there that he met Nurse Seaman.

When it became known that the cancer was terminal, the nurse questioned how to break this news to her patient. Tricia Somers was 45 years old when she walked over and told the nurse she had a question to ask her.

Somers immediately asked if he could take his son with him and if he could be cared for in the event of his death. Both women were complete strangers.

However, Seaman's husband, and his entire family, agreed that he accept this proposal. Shortly after, the patient died, of which eight years have passed since then.

Currently, Wesley just turned 16 and now has a learner's permit. The nurse recalled that her patient told her that he bought his son gifts so that he would open them as he grew older.

Therefore, she continues with the same tradition. This time he decided to buy him a keychain for when he has his first car. With those little details, the nurse will continue to raise the now adolescent.

“I think it was the only thing he could think of to do, really. And I am grateful every day that you have made that decision,”said the teenager, referring to his mother. Seaman comments that Wesley is a young role model and an excellent student.

In addition, he considers that he has been touched by angels and therefore has a very loving and kind heart.

They say that angels exist and manifest themselves in many ways, and this is a clear example that it is so. This nurse is a role model.
