Gardner and Multiple Intelligences: Everything You Need to Know
Theory of multiple intelligences
This theory of multiple intelligences was discovered or raised by the psychologist Howard Gardner who stated that there is not only one type of intelligence, but that there are several and that the human being can develop one or more of them.
Gardner in his theory, explained that the individual was not only designed to develop a type of intelligence established or predetermined by the environment, but that it can and requires the development of several types of it.
With the ability to solve problems and create new experiences from any area the individual is developing some type of intelligence.
According to Gardner, an academic title or some educational merit does not define the intelligence of a person, or whoever knows about mathematics, equations and variations is not more intelligent than those who do not cover it, on the contrary, he argues that each individual can develop their intelligence to the maximum of Agree in the area that is more skilled, for example there are people who have a sharper emotional intelligence than those who have logical mathematical intelligence.
There are academically well-recognized people who are skilled in knowledge, but do not have many socio-emotional skills, it is difficult for them to socialize and establish relationships, and this does it to more or less than another person, what Gardner raises is that each one to acquired and developed a different kind of intelligence.
What are the multiple intelligences?
They are the knowledge of the diverse abilities, capacities and potentialities that a person possesses, debating the traditional concept of what intelligence is, this theory was raised at the beginning of the eighties, debating the traditionalist concept and its rigid methods to measure it.
Multiple intelligences are not only reflected in the academic field but in all the skills that a person can possess, in sports, in science, in the logical mathematical aspect, in music, space, in interpersonal relationships, in the area intrapersonal.
An intelligence will be determined by the ability of the person to learn and resolve a conflict in a given situation. And this intelligence is evidenced through a learning process.
Learning processes
The learning process is one by which the individual acquires knowledge, skills and abilities through experiences and experiences, this process can be developed in the middle of a school environment or outside it.
Within the learning process, several steps are evidenced so that it can be achieved, including intelligence, behavior, attention, memory, speed of thought, etc.
Functioning of the human brain in multiple intelligences
The human brain works through the connections it makes with the intelligence that is presented in front of it, if the connection with that intelligence is intense, the brain will select it as important information and will quickly process it, this will mark part of the intelligence that the person will have.
The brain has places within which they will have a closer relationship and interaction with the intelligence in which they are identified, some areas are more connected than others, that is why there are people more agile for music, others for relationships, others for the sport and discipline. Each individual develops more than one multiple intelligence.
What are the 8 multiple intelligences?
Multiple intelligences can be classified into 8 which can be encompassed several in the human brain, and none is better than the other, on the contrary each one is important for aspects in life and with any of them we have the ability to resolve conflicts and new scenarios in the life.
Howard Gardner's Theory managed to define 8 types of multiple intelligence, Every person can develop one or more, then we are going to list and describe them to place ourselves in which of them we can be present:
Mathematical Logical Intelligence
This type of intelligence is one in which the individual has the ability to establish responses to situations through mathematical logical reasoning.
When a person is very fast or agile in numbers and in solving logical or mathematical problems, then it is an indicator that the person has developed that intelligence.
We can observe this intelligence in engineers, mathematicians, scientists, economists, engineers, strategists, administrators. Those who develop this type of intelligence have a unique ability to understand abstract relationships, calculations, formulas, equations, etc.
Linguistic intelligence
It is developed by people who have the ability to correctly master language, communication with other people, we all obtain it since we began to communicate with our mothers from the womb through the mother tongue.
Linguistic intelligence is not only based on the oral part but also through gestures and writing expressing ourselves and making us understand.
Within the professions or people who can develop this intelligence, are politicians, teachers, poets, writers, self-taught, journalists and actors.
Musical intelligence
It is that capacity that the human being has to be able to perceive musical forms, in this case the majority of people worldwide like music, but there is a group of them who have a facility for evaluating sounds, notes, playing an instrument, the type of music, some have a voice to sing, tune, interpret and in turn compose songs.
This intelligence like the others can be developed through study and meaningful experience with music, such as in the area of composition, interpretation, playing an instrument or singing.
Bodily and kinesthetic intelligence
They are those bodily and motor skills that the individual possesses in order to express feelings, ideas, thoughts through the body.
This intelligence assumes the ability to use the body to express and create.
Among the people who can have this intelligence are actors, athletes, surgeons, dancers.
An athlete is one who has a great combination of discipline and talent for sports or physical skills, a dancer his skills will be in expressing music through his body with steps, an actor expresses a message through his body and performance.
Intrapersonal and interpersonal intelligence
They are those people who have the ability to mature in their internal world, they are the type of people who know how to handle their emotions very well and how to act in the face of complicated situations in their life, people with a healthy self-esteem, self-confident and with the ability to advance.
On the other hand, interpersonal intelligence, is that intelligence that is detected when the person is very devoted to the well-being of others, socialization, communication, conversation, work with teams or masses, it is a great mediator through body and verbal language.
Naturalistic Intelligence
That ability that the individual has with their natural environment, respecting, understanding and appreciating it as other people cannot. A person who develops this intelligence is able to study and understand species of plants, animals, plants, the climate and geography.
Each intelligence is unique and each one of them leads the human being to their meaningful learning and how to materialize new opportunities.
