How to make homemade bread step by step
Preparation of the dough
Note: In case of using an electric mixer, it is better to use the rods in a spiral shape to make it easier to beat the dough.
In a large enough bowl, add the margarine at room temperature, followed by the sugar and the egg.
Begin to beat the ingredients in the bowl, with the help of an electric mixer, until you notice that there are no longer lumps in the mixture. If you don't have an electric mixer, beat by hand with a wooden paddle.
Add the granulated yeast, followed by the warm milk. If you like, in this step you can add a little butter essence, as this will give it a better flavor.
Beat again with the electric mixer, or by hand with a paddle, until everything is perfectly integrated.
Start adding the flour little by little while you continue beating, so that it is integrated into the mixture. The ideal is to do it with circular movements of the mixer.
Once you have incorporated the flour and the mixture becomes too dense to continue beating it with the mixer, it will be time to remove the rods. Don't worry if you haven't integrated all the flour yet, as you will incorporate it later.
Kneading process
Add the remaining flour on the dough, then dump it on the table and start kneading.
Flour a flat surface and begin to knead vigorously until it no longer sticks to your fingers.
When all the flour has been incorporated, continue kneading for approximately 15 minutes. If you need more flour as you continue to knead, sprinkle it over the dough and continue.
Once the 15 minutes are up and your dough looks smooth and soft, form it into a ball and place it in a floured bowl. Cover it with a kitchen towel and leave it in a warm place until it doubles in size. This may take an hour and a half.
After an hour and a half, knead again to degas the dough. This new kneading process will be 5 more minutes.
Formation of the loaves
Divide the dough into two equal parts, and then divide each of the halves into six equal parts. Take care that each of the pieces of dough are exactly the same size.
Once you have all the pieces of dough, shape them into a ball.
In case you decide to use the candied fruit, make a hole in each of the balls to add the amount you think is necessary of the fruit.
Subsequently, close the dough in place and re-form the ball. Repeat the procedure with all the pieces of dough.
Place the balls on a previously floured tray. Ideally, leave a space of at least three centimeters between each ball of dough.
Make a cross-shaped cut with the help of a very sharp knife in each of the dough balls.
Cover the loaves with a kitchen towel and let them rest for about an hour and a half.
With the help of a kitchen brush, paint the bread with the milk cream. In case you do not have milk cream, you can paint the bread with a beaten egg and mixed with a little milk.
Place some candied fruit on top of the buns if you like.
Sprinkle some sugar over the buns.
Baking process
Put the tray with the loaves in the oven preheated to 160º C. In fact, it is very important that you do not put the loaves in the oven while it is cold.
Let the loaves bake for 25 to 30 minutes. After this time, you will know that the loaves are ready when they have a golden hue and have increased in size.
Remove the loaves from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before transferring them to a wire rack.
If you like, sprinkle a little sugar mixed with ground cinnamon on the buns, before proceeding to serve them.
With what to accompany the homemade breads?
You can accompany homemade breads for breakfast with a little margarine, jam, eggs, bacon, cheese, among others. As for drinks, you can accompany them with a glass of fruit juice or coffee.
In case you decide to eat them as an afternoon snack, it is ideal to accompany these breads with a little Nutella, jam or cream cheese. On the other hand, if you want to accompany the bread with a drink, a soda or some flavored milk drink is a great option.
As you may have noticed, homemade bread is very easy to make and its final consistency is soft, with a sweet and delicious flavor. In addition, it is ideal for you to eat it for breakfast or as a snack.
