"Morbius" suffers its umpteenth delay: Why is it?
Superhero movies continue to be a fundamental part of Hollywood's highlight. 2021 was full of productions associated with these characters that knew how to keep fans on edge.
2022 will follow the same trend with great releases for both Marvel Studios, Marvel Sony and DC. However, not all is good news as is the case of "Morbius" who has been postponed again.
The rebound in the pandemic may have influenced the decision
Morbius has been one of the most delayed superhero productions in the Seventh Art. This is the third film that the Sony Company's Spider-Man Universe will exhibit. Therefore, it will share the same scenario where Venom unfolds.
The filming of the film began almost 3 years ago, in February 2019. It only took about 4 to 5 months to finish the recordings, so by June of that same year it was already finished. At that time, its premiere was announced for mid-July 2020.
However, the events triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic led to the suspension of Morbius until further notice. It was not the only film to suffer such consequences, as the film industry mostly collapsed.
After two years, its premiere was made official for January 21, 2022. Unfortunately, the rapid extension of the omicron variant and the increase in cases of coronavirus in the world, dismissed the date. Now, it is expected that in April of this year it will be the final launch.
A movie that has been postponed... 6 times !!
While a large percentage of new filming and projects are being held back by the coronavirus, Morbius draws a lot of attention. It is the sixth time the film's release date has been changed due to issues that get out of hand.
It all started on July 10, 2020, a date that the producers of the filming found difficult to address. It was immediately delayed for the first time to the 31st of the same month mentioned. An alternative route that was in absolute contrast to the health situation the world was going through.
After analyzing the repercussions of COVID-19 for the cinema, it was definitively postponed to 2021. In the first place, a perfect premiere was handled on March 19, but it was changed to October 8 to improve the quality of the film.
Close to the tenth month of 2021, Sony again postponed its title to early 2022. The calendar marked January 21 of the recent current year, to again be delayed to 28 of the same month. And, although it seemed to be final, it was scheduled for April 1.
Fans have been quick to draw their own conclusions
It is clear that the pandemic has been the main benefactor of Morbius's postponements. About his latest delay, it was probably the most sensible thing after the impact established by omicron on society.
In parallel, it is a fact that has led fans to draw their own conclusions. In fact, a new theory is circulating on social networks backed by what has been shown in the Morbius trailers.
First glimpses of the Sony Pictures film have offered nods to Spider-Verse. From a mural painted with Toby Maguire's Spider-Man, to Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man's Oscorp logo.
In turn, The Vulture (The Vulture, in Spanish) starring Michael Keaton, enjoyed a cameo in the trailer. Looking back, Keaton played the same villain in Tom Holland's first movie as Marvel Studios' Spider-Man.
Each one of those tracks has postulated that this delay is due to the incorporation of new scenes. Precisely, the return of Andrew Garfield in the role of the Spider-Man for this film is handled.
The inclusion of Garfield would not be entirely outlandish after the events narrated in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the same way, it would explain why again, and suddenly, Morbius has been delayed.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is also a compelling reason
Contrary to what the insiders of the arachnid universe comment, the reasons could also be other. The novel Marvel Studios movie: Spider-Man: No Way Home, continues to symbolize a worldwide phenomenon.
In short, since December it has remained in the first position in the world box office due to everything it exhibits. As a result, other premieres that were planned between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 have been eclipsed.
Sony Pictures was also able to adopt the strategy of delaying Morbius in order not to suffer the "tail blows" of hurricane "No Way Home." As a result, he will wait a prudent time until April 2022 to release the vampire character from it.
Will Morbius have a chance to explain all his loose ends?
Morbius will be the next film starring the renowned 50-year-old actor, Jared Leto. You will play the role of Dr. Michael Morbius, a famous scientist who suffers from a rare and terminal blood disease.
In your quest to heal and inspire those who suffer from the same condition, something goes wrong. His body undergoes extraordinary and superhuman changes after undergoing a powerful and dark "ancient magic".
It is the turning point that will turn him into Marvel's controversial vampire, one of his many antiheroes. But, the question is the following, in which universe is Morbius located?
As already mentioned, the trailers have provided clues that tie into the three Spider-Man sagas. At the same time, a reference to Venom was included, so it is clear that they share the same scenario as them.
It is the maximum doubt that is expected to be clarified on April 1, 2022. As usual in Marvel movies, expectations are running high. Will it succeed in tying up all the loose ends?
