Bringing together Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci in the same film only generates expectations and a guaranteed success. Netflix bets on The Irishman to win the Oscars, but no one can see the film in theaters.

The problem is that large movie houses do not allow a movie that can be seen at home to be screened in theaters. While movie houses assure that it is not profitable to screen them and all the logistics that this requires, Netflix assures that it will be a total success.

It is not the first case where Netflix must negotiate with international cinemas. Oscar-winning Rome was unable to enter theaters and remained exclusively on the platform. According to The New York Times, Netflix is in talks with two major exhibition networks, AMC (11,000 screens worldwide) and Cineplex, a Canadian network with 1,600 screens.

Now, you only have to wait until the New York Festival on September 27 where it will be released in Cinema, later it will go to the London Festival on October 13. Day that is believed will be the premiere on the platform.

The Irishman is based on the novel I Heard You Paint Houses and written by Charles Brandt, where it has all the elements that herald an event for Scorsese moviegoers. Currently, it is considered as one of the most anticipated films of the year, but until today, only on the platform.

The Irishman has been in production for over a decade. The film was originally being produced by Paramount, but due to a loss of budget, they had to abandon the film. Netflix invested about $160 million to acquire it and Martin Scorsese was the pinch of salt that was missing from this dish starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.

Film director Scorsese wants his film to be screened internationally, but cinemas have different intentions.
