54-year-old woman fulfills her daughter's dream and gives birth to her grandson
In Australia, the case of Maree Arnold, a 54-year-old woman who gave birth to her grandson, became known, since her daughter was born without a uterus. The desire to become a mother for several years was the impetus for her mother to make the decision.
Maree gave birth to Winston, her grandson, through a surrogate pregnancy. The child was born healthy by cesarean section.
Megan White, born in Lylidale, Tasmania, was diagnosed at age 17 with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome. This is a rare congenital anomaly of the genital tract, that is, she was born without a uterus so she could not have children.
On her 28th birthday, a surrogate mother from Canada gave birth to her son. However, the baby died 21 weeks after birth.
After this, Megan and her husband were very devastated and saddened by the news, losing hope of being parents.
In addition, to this was added that many countries, at the beginning of the pandemic, prohibited international travel, which worsened the situation.
Decision to make her daughter happy
Maree, seeing how her daughter was doing, decided to offer her help and took it upon herself to investigate the options to help her. That was how she found out that she could be a surrogate mother for her grandson. This process included psychological and medical examinations and legal advice.
When the results are approved, they assure that the process was not easy. Maree also had to undergo treatments on her uterus, as she had gone through menopause.
For this, she had to comply with strict medical treatment so that the process is reversed and the lining of the uterus thickens, and she can have a successful pregnancy.
The woman became pregnant after four embryo transfers. At the end of the process, he optimally fathered the baby of his daughter and son-in-law.
The baby was delivered by caesarean section
The birth process was planned in advance and without a doubt, it went as planned. The baby, Winston, was born on January 13 without any complications.
Meagan, the new mother, told the media that this is a dream come true. When they saw him for the first time, they knew love at first sight. He assures that he has filled their hearts in a way they never imagined.
Both parents were present at the birth, were very emotional, and the attending physician was very reassuring and informative.
Maree is a mother of five children, and a worker on her own farm. She assured that the birth was very special and she is happy to have had her grandson in her womb.
In statements, the woman stated that she knew she would be too old to do something like that. However, this is a sign that you should always ask. She added that, “It is such a special experience for me, and I am delighted to be able to help my daughter.”
The new grandmother hopes that this story will help other people to embark on this journey, as well as them. He insisted that he would do it again without a doubt.
