Arrested in anti-vaccine protests in New Zealand

After three days of protests, 120 protesters were arrested by the New Zealand police. People disobey the obligation of vaccinations.

This protest is inspired by the truckers of Canada, in front of the Parliament of Wellington.

Grant Robertson, deputy prime minister, stated that the patience for the protest had run out and subsequently requested police intervention. Activists beat the police officers and shouted that they do not live in a democracy, and demanded that they lift the compulsory vaccination.

Wellington Police Commander Corrie Parnell told reporters that they had never attended a protest of this magnitude. Since Tuesday, the outskirts of Parliament have been packed with dozens of campaigns and the streets have been blocked.

First, the police arrested 50 activists. In this process they used pepper spray as a method of control in the incidents. Two police officers were injured, as well as some demonstrators.

Those arrested will be charged with obstruction and trespassing. They will opt for release on bail, with appearance in court.

Parnell reported that he has additional reinforcements, 150 officers, which will be added to the 900 officers at the Wellington station. More will be arriving in the next few days.

He also added that the police know the right of citizens to protest, but it must be done in a way that does not collide with the public.

Convoy 2022 NZ has been in charge of mobilizing hundreds of citizens from different parts of the country for the protest in the capital of New Zealand. Some of the demands of this activity is that they grant the freedom that was lost in the pandemic and that they stop requiring vaccines.

The protesters received the message from the Police notifying them that if they remain on the site, they risk being arrested.

Vehicles illegally parked in Parliament and near the War Memorial are also being fined by Wellington Police.

Currently, New Zealand requires citizens to vaccinate against Covid-19 to education, health, defense and police workers. In addition to the presentation of the vaccination card before entering sporting events, religious services and restaurants.
