Experiments in Spain: Approximately 32 Beagle puppies will be sacrificed
The Vivotecnia laboratories, a provider organization for the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), which depends on the University of Barcelona (UB), have been denounced in recent days by activists, environmental associations and residents of Barcelona.
The experiment that is being carried out on the animals consists of supplying the canines with a medication to determine the exact dose to end the existence of half of them.
At the end of the tests, all the canines will be sacrificed to later perform autopsies, as reported by the complainants, among them is PACMA.
An activist against Vivotecnia and the UB, is part of the complainants, said that there is still time to save them. Ask them to take care of releasing the Beagles as stated in article 30 of RD 53/2013 of February 1, 2010/63/EU, which indicates that, at the end of the project, the puppies are given up for adoption.
Sources from the University of Barcelona have informed the international news agency EFE that an external organization is leading a trial that investigates how to encourage consideration of fibrotic diseases.
In this research, he studies the histopathological behavior of the organs of 32 Beagle puppies.
The company that leads the exploration does not have a place in the PCB, it is only housed in it, like innumerable other groups and external elements in the UB, as the UB clarified.
Close sources assure that, like other organizations housed in the PCB, it can access the administrations of the PCB providers, among which is Vivotecnia.
Animal abuse
The University of Barcelona has assured that the work agreement is being drawn up, so the trial and error phase has not yet begun, which is expected to begin in mid-March.
Likewise, it will guarantee that all the regulations on trial and error of the creature are complied with, and that the canines can be sacrificed assuming that there is no other option.
The operating agreement must depend on each of the needs established in the provincial, state and European guidelines, without prejudice to the moral statutes that bind both the PCB and the UB.
According to the university, practice with animals is already essential to ensure a logical advance, especially in biomedicine, which allows us to deal with the different diseases that attack us.
This exercise is done on the university premises, just when it is totally unavoidable and consistent with the highest moral principles, to limit the effect on creatures that are important to the tests.
Finally, he added that public institutions, research centers and universities are determined to continue trying to track options against the trial and error of creatures and to find options that gain the conceivable logical advance without falling back on this formation.
Last April, the Community of Madrid suspended the examination movement of the Vivotecnia research center as a result of the fact that, after a protest, signs of mistreatment of the creatures were found after a review at its Tres Cantos central command.
Sources from the Ministry of the Environment, Territorial Planning and Sustainability informed EFE that the brief suspension took place on June 1.
This measure was taken after verifying that the laboratory had executed each one of the aforementioned preventive and remedial measures, such as surveillance cameras and a veterinary group to prepare reports on the circumstances of the creatures.
