Germany seizes mega yacht from Russian oligarch Usmanov
Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov received sanctions from the European Union.
The European Union punished Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov this week. This action was taken as a response to the invasion of Ukraine.
Brussels explained that the seizure of the Usmanov superyacht was carried out, since the Russian oligarch is one of Vladimir Putin's favorites, and also one of his alleged figureheads.
This property is valued at almost 600 million dollars.
According to Forbes, the magazine specializing in tracking world fortunes, The ship was in the shipyards of the German company Blohm+Voss in the city of Hamburg, since October last year.
In 2016, the billionaire paid $6 billion to a German company for the ship. The property was custom built over a period of 52 months.
This has a length of 156 meters, weighs approximately 16,000 tons. Due to these characteristics, it becomes the largest yacht in the world by gross weight. In addition, it has a crew of 96 people.
The superyacht named "El Dilbar", has a sauna, gym, twelve suites to accommodate 24 people. In this property it has the largest swimming pool installed on a yacht.
Alisher Usmanov is an entrepreneur in the metal sector. It has large and important investments in several companies in different fields. According to Forbes, his fortune is 14,000 million dollars, placing him in 99th place on the list of the great millionaires, prepared by the magazine.
Usmanov was sanctioned by the European Union, for which he decided to leave his post as president of the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
On the FIE website, Usmanov published a statement stating that the decision taken by the EU is unfair, and that it is based on defamatory and false allegations, which damage his dignity, business reputation and honor.
Likewise, Everton, the English soccer team, notified that it is canceling its commercial agreements with Russian companies in which Usmanov has a stake, since he had ties to the club.
