Governor of Florida signed law to prevent teachings about the LGTBI community
DeSantis assures that the approval of this law will be beneficial for parents and their children

Beginning July 1, elementary schools in the state of Florida will be prohibited from teaching their students about topics related to sexual orientation or gender identity. Decision taken, after the governor of this state, Ron DeSantis, signed a law on Monday that prohibits these practices.

The Republican governor declared minutes before ratifying said law, that his government will ensure that children receive education and not indoctrination. So parents will be sure to send their children to school.

The law will apply from preschool to third grade, a period in which students are usually between six and nine years old.

Last March 8 there was a great stir in the United States, specifically among the Democrats and the LCGBTI activists, who showed a strong rejection, after the approval of the law "Don't Say Gay" (No Digas Gay) made by the Florida Senate, composed mostly of Republicans.

The decision also generated disputes on the part of Disney workers, who staged protests forcefully opposing this law.

Even the company, which has approximately 75,000 workers in its amusement park, located in Orlando, Florida, rejected the approval of this law through a statement presented on Monday.

Florida Republicans have been fighting for a better education in the state for months, therefore, for them this won battle represents a benefit for parents, most of whom want to have control over what their children learn in schools.

On the other hand, the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Equality Florida, in charge of defending the rights of the LGBTI community, made critical comments about the governor's decision.

"DeSantis has damaged our state's reputation as a welcoming and inclusive place for all families, made us a laughingstock and the target of national ridicule. And worse, he has made schools less safe for children." They stated in the statement.

One of the educational struggles that exist in Florida is focused on the Critical Theory of Race, a doctrine that seeks to study the past slavery and discrimination in the country, which caused the racism that is currently experienced.

In this sense, the state Parliament approved on March 10 a bill that prohibits the teaching of issues related to race in official school programs.
