New earthquake strongly shakes the sea in the south of the strait that separates the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra. It is known that these are the most populated areas, and the authorities warned people of a possible tsunami.

This area is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, there is constant seismic activity and also has 127 active volcanoes. As an estimated value it is said that almost 7,000 small-scale earthquakes occur each year at the site.

Today's earthquake reached a magnitude of 6.9 degrees according to the US agency USGS and the Indonesian seismological service, BMKG, measured 7.4 degrees.

According to the USGS, its hypocenter was about 90 kilometers southwest of the province of Banten, Java, and 42 kilometers deep. It is not yet known if there were human losses or injured people.

The BMKG, gave notice to the people of the place to seek refuge in high areas of the place because after the tsunami warning there may be waves of up to three meters. The places where these waves will occur are the islands of Java, Sumatra and Panaitan.

Indonesia last year suffered from an earthquake that reached a magnitude of 7.5 on the island of Sulawesi, which caused a tsunami that killed 2,000 people and around 200,000 displaced populations such as Palu and Donggala.
