Latin America leads the End Of The Year survey – News – WebMediums
83% of the Colombian population is happy

Since 1979, the End Of The Year survey has been conducted in approximately 44 countries around the world by Gallup International. Currently, it was carried out to obtain results after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The study showed that Latin America and East Asia are positioned as the happiest places in the world.

Europe, Russia and the Middle East are classified as the least happy areas, after obtaining results from a survey of 41,560 people around the world. This survey had a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error between +3-5%.

Colombia is the leader in Gallup International's happiness ranking. This country has an 83% happy population. The list is followed by Kazakhstan with 81%, Malaysia with 78%, as well as Nigeria, and Albania with 74% each.

In the list of the unhappiest countries, Iraq, Ukraine and Ghana rank first, with 31% each, followed by Pakistan, Russia and Turkey with 23% each. 36% of the population of Afghanistan consider themselves to be unhappy or very unhappy.

The president of Gallup International, Kancho Stoychev, was in charge of studying in depth the situation of rich countries and assured that these societies are usually well economically, but they are old and less happy. While the countries with the largest youth population are the happiest.

He also explained that, for a person to be able to define whether they are an unhappy or a happy person, they must include many very specific prejudices, cultural, national and psychological stigmas.

Hope after the pandemic

This 2022 continues to be the protagonist in the pandemic, due to the omicron variant. Despite this, there are certain world advances that have allowed people to feel a little peace of mind and hope. Such is the case of some European nations that have taken it upon themselves to eliminate certain health restrictions, in order to return to normality.

This world situation has affected people's hopes, expectations and fears. However, certain regions do see some differences, Gallup said.

38% of the world's population considers that this year will be better than 2021. While 28% believe that it will be a worse year and 27% estimate a year equal to 2021.

In Indonesia, its inhabitants seem to have more hope, since 76% of the population hopes for a better year. This opinion is mostly shared by citizens of Albania (70%), Nigeria (68%), Azerbaijan (62%) and Vietnam (59%).

Just as there are high hopes in some countries, in others they are very low, since they expect a worse year. This case is that of Afghanistan (56%), this country is considered the most unhappy and pessimistic country; Turkey (56%), Bulgaria (48%), Poland (47%), the Czech Republic (45%) and Pakistan (41%).

With this result it can be determined that Russia, the Middle East and Europe have the most pessimistic citizens and the countries of Asia, people are optimistic.

Compared to the results of 2020, Mexico, Japan and Korea have increased their hope and Germany, the US, and the UK have drastically decreased.

More than a tenth of the world's population determines that they are more or less unhappy and about a third assures that they are neither happy nor unhappy.
