Netflix cancels Pearl, a series in development created by Meghan Markle
The developing series "Pearl", created by Meghan Markle, was canceled along with other productions on the streaming platform. It was going to be animated and it was going to be about a twelve-year-old girl who was inspired by influential women in history.
Netflix commented that these productions are canceled because many subscribers left the platform in April and it is estimated that a large number will be withdrawn to add to this drop, so the budget is also low.
The fall led to the reduction of more than US$50,000 million in the company's market value. Experts believe that Netflix may take longer than estimated to return to normal subscribers, therefore, while this process is being experienced and analyzed, many series have been suspended, including the one developed by Meghan Markle.
However, Prince Harry's wife has built a production company called Archewell Productions, which Meghan says will be the official producer of her series. Despite this suspension by Netflix, the platform stated that it will continue to work with the royal production company on other projects.
Recently, a project is planned, a documentary series which will be called "Heart of Invictus", will be based on the men who participated in the last edition of the Invictus Games, a competition planned by Prince Harry for those who have suffered war injuries.
In addition to Pearl, Netflix has also canceled two children's series. In the first quarter of the year, Netflix has lost more than 200 thousand subscribers and it is estimated that this figure will double in the coming quarters.
Experts agree that everything is due to a lack of resolution on the part of streaming, since, although it is true, in a pandemic they had all the potential, now with the return to normality, the platform lacks strategies to be attractive.
Added to that, the cost of living has been gradually increasing all over the world. For this reason, many people have had to cut expenses in order to survive and part of that cut is streaming. In addition, there is already a lot of competition such as HBO, Disney + and other platforms that promise entertainment.
