The meeting between the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, and his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, in Geneva, was aimed at finding a way to lower tensions over Ukraine, after the growth of a possible invasion.

The representatives will meet within a week with the aim of continuing the speech. Although the tone of the meeting was frank, as Blinken indicated, it also served to defuse hostility after days of bellicose speeches.

Washington accepts that the possibility of a Russian military invasion of Ukraine is likely, with a huge number of soldiers mobilized over the last few weeks near the Ukrainian border territory.

The representatives agreed to meet again and Blinken floated a meeting of superiors between Biden and Putin, an idea that is very premature according to Lavrov.

Russia met without wanting to back down from its main interest: that NATO does not continue its incursion into Eastern Europe and does not transport troops or weapons, nor continue its military exercises in the area, which would mean preventing any future Ukrainian participation in the Alliance.

After the meeting, the United States assured a response to Russia's demands within a week, said Sergey Lavrov, after what he described as "frank and sincere" talks with the American about the emergency in Ukraine.

According to Lavrov, he and Blinken agree that the dialogue scenario should continue, but in a friendly and frank way to defuse hostility.

On the other hand, Russia requested the withdrawal of foreign troops and all their military deployment from Bulgaria and Romania, an important point for the security that Moscow demands to prevent the extension of NATO.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the demands by Russia were stated bluntly, so precise that there was no room for other interpretations.

Consequently, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) rejected the request, since NATO members have the same importance, and it will not reject the protection of its members.

Oana Lungescu, NATO representative, assured that the organization is on the lookout for shielding the eastern part of the alliance and stressed that there will always be responses when security is violated.

Regarding the United States, Moscow proposed an agreement that guarantees that the nuclear weapons of both countries are within their borders, in addition to the return of all soldiers and tactical-military deployment.

Also, Russia made a nine-point proposal to NATO, in which the following stands out:

The cessation of all military activity on Ukrainian territory, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Asia. For its part, the United States.

Likewise, he defended the freedom of each country to make its own decisions, in reference to Ukraine joining NATO. He also demanded demonstrations of not wanting to invade Ukraine, withdrawing the military deployment in the Ukrainian border area.

The United States focused on the fact that Russia really has the possibility to choose the diplomatic path, and that assuming it chooses the path of the conflict over Ukraine "there will be an immediate international response", ensuring that the United States and Europe are cautious for either of the two scenarios.

In the world, the Russian proposals have been described as an ultimatum, however, the possibility of continuing the dialogue to lower the tension on the Ukrainian border in the face of an imminent invasion by Russia is highlighted.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania reported this Friday that they will send anti-tank missiles and systems as well as anti-aircraft batteries to Ukraine. The countries have demanded that Russia stop the intimidation and aggression against Ukraine.

The three Baltic nations determined in a letter that they will send US Lance and Stinger missiles, having recently obtained Washington's approval to do so. Estonia will send Javelin anti-tank missiles; Latvia and Lithuania will give anti-aircraft Stinger.

Estonian Defense Minister Kalle Laanet said it was "essential to help Ukraine in every possible way".
