Russia said on Friday that French President Emmanuel Macron kept his distance from Putin at the Ukraine meeting over his refusal to take a PCR test.

The photographs that circulated on the internet, where Putin and Macron could be seen, sitting at each pole of a huge white table, brought with them a large number of criticisms and points of coldness regarding Russia's position in the face of the European conflict.

The Russian spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, assured that this decision, to use the six-meter table, was made after Emmanuel Macron refused to carry out a PCR test on Russian territory.

The spokesman pointed out that, when guests do not agree to follow Russian biosecurity protocols, they use furniture that separates and protects President Putin from contagion.

In addition, he stressed that it was not a political measure and that it has no impact on the negotiations.

According to French media sources, the President of France was presented with two options : take the PCR test to rule out that he has the virus, or undergo stricter social distancing.

The sources assured that they were aware that taking a distance would mean not shaking hands and perhaps making the meeting more enjoyable.

However, they stress that they could not allow Russia to have President Macron's DNA.

Since the beginning of this year, Vladimir Putin has met with the Prime Minister of Hungary, the President of Iran and with different countries allied with Russia with the white table in between.

However, the president of Argentina and the president of Kazakhstan held a meeting near Putin.

Macron's visit to Russia consists of a diplomatic attempt to reach agreements that will lower the tension between Ukraine and Russia.
