Shooting in Uvalde

Imagining the grief, pain, frustration and despair that the parents had, upon learning of the event at the Uvalde Elementary School, is something impossible to describe. They had to say goodbye to their little ones in the most heartbreaking way, without imagining that it would be the last time they would hug their little ones.

But this tragedy only adds to the list of school shootings that have taken place on school campuses since 2018. There is no doubt that it has been one of the most atrocious in history, since the attacker was merciless against the little 4th graders.

Education Week, recorded that so far this year 2022, at least 27 shootings. Last year there were 34 shootings in educational centers.

The Uvalde tragedy is one of the most heinous massacres that has been committed in an educational center. Comparing it to the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, where 23 people were killed and injured.

Politicians perspective

During a press conference, the Governor of Texas Greg Abbot mentioned having felt the "horrible loss" of the little ones who lost their lives, and the two teachers of the educational institution.

He also added that there are serious mental health problems in the Texas community, but "thanks to the weapons," the gunman managed to be neutralized.

But for the parents of the victims, words cannot comfort the pain of having lost their little ones.

Javier Cáceres, the father of one of the little deceased, attended the press conference held by the governor, looking for answers, to which he pointed out that his words were cold, and do not help at all to alleviate the pain.

In addition to that, the position of him and his legislators has been criticized, who since 2021 will approve a law that allows most Texans to carry firearms in public, without permission or training.

Police presence in schools

After the massacre in Uvalde, the state police are committed to protecting school security within educational facilities.

Despite the absence of threats, state and local police have joined forces to protect the safety of the children. This has happened in New York City.

Mourning, mourning, pain, and nothing changes

The Uvalde tragedy is not the only one that has shaken the country, we cannot forget the massacre that took place in the community of Buffalo, New York, a few weeks earlier.

Where the attacker, motivated by hate, opened fire in front of a Tops Friendly Markets store, shooting 13 people, mostly black people.

In 2012, a gunman opened fire and killed 20 first graders and 6 employees at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. It has been known as one of the deadliest school shootings in US history.

Another was the one that took place at Virginia Technological University in 2007, where 33 people died.

Mass shootings are a recurring tragedy in the United States, despite this, the parents and relatives of the victims conclude that nothing changes, that the necessary measures are not taken, and that firearms are still present in the streets and schools..
