The German Chancellor also refused to undergo a PCR test in Russia
The German president, Olaf Scholz, during his visit to Russia held a meeting with Putin with the same six-meter table that starred in the meeting between the presidents of Russia and France a week ago.
The German chancellor also refused to take a PCR test on Russian territory. European presidents have been reluctant to leave samples of their DNA in the hands of Russia.
Scholz, agreed to undergo a discard test, requested to access the Russian seat of government, but on the same plane that landed on Russian territory.
The test was carried out by medical staff from the German Embassy in Moscow, using a test device shipped from Germany.
At the time of the test, the Russian health authorities were present during the test to verify that it was done correctly.
After this health protocol, Putin received Scholz with the enormous six-meter-long marble table in between.
Dmitry Peskov assured that the refusal to carry out the Russian test did not generate any impact on the meeting between the two leaders, regardless of the distance.
At the beginning of the meeting with Vladimir Putin, the German chancellor mentioned the difficult situation in the country and in Europe. In addition, he communicated his joy at being able to dialogue with President Putin, highlighting the importance of resolving differences between countries with good conversations.
On the other hand, Putin addressed the good economic relationship he has with Germany, especially in energy matters, notably mentioning Germany's dependence on Russian gas production.
After both reiterated that the meeting was based on the crisis with Ukraine, the press was withdrawn from the place.
A few hours before Putin's meeting with Scholz, Russia reported that some Russian soldiers were withdrawing from the border after completing their respective military exercises.
Days ago, the German chancellor asked Putin to take effective measures for de-escalation, for which the withdrawal of some troops from the border has been considered positive by Germany.
Meeting with Angela Merkel
The German Chancellor had a long telephone meeting with former Chancellor Angela Merkel in preparation for this meeting.
In the past, Merkel and Putin have had countless meetings in the last twenty years, maintaining a better relationship than many Western countries.
Scholz has assured that Putin will not give in after the meeting and will immediately withdraw all the military forces deployed on the Ukrainian border, but his team does consider that it is a great and first step to de-escalate the conflict.
Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov, on Monday , told Putin in front of the dam that the dialogue must continue, however, in Germany they do not ensure that this statement should be taken seriously.
A day before the meeting with Putin, Scholz met with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, who promised him a breakthrough for the Minsk process through some legislative proposals.
At that meeting in kyiv, Scholz demanded that Zelenski be willing to carry out the measures so that the Minsk process takes its course again, as Russia requested at the last Normandy summit held in Russia.
These bills are already available and others will soon be brought to the Ukrainian congress. These are made up of regulations for local elections in Donbass and autonomy decrees for Donetsk and Luhansk, which are currently controlled by pro-Russians.
At the end of the meeting in Russia, Scholz called for a meeting with spokespersons for Russian civil society, including Memorial, a human rights organization.
Several of these organizations have been persecuted and banned and their members have had to face criminal charges that can lead to prison.
At the end of his visit, the German chancellor will inform the ambassadors of the European Union who are in Moscow about the meeting with the Russian president. At this meeting there are only the two of them and their interpreters.
Before everything, while in Germany, Scholz laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, while the military band played the German national anthem.
