President Biden has confirmed that "in an act of cowardice" the Islamist, before being captured by his special forces team, blew himself up with different explosives, killing more than 10 civilians, including children.

Operation details

The moment the Americans received information about the hideout where ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was taking refuge, they designed a different operation than the one they are used to running.

Well, his relatives took refuge with the terrorist, so they chose not to carry out an aerial bombardment as is customary, so as not to affect civilians, however al-Qurayshi did not consider it that way.

The US president also announced that, in the anti-terrorist operation, none of his soldiers were injured, and he was fully grateful for the courage they had shown.

Who was al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi?

Amir Mohamed Said Abderraman al-Mawla, better known as Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, was a veteran of the fight against the West, a graduate of the Mosul College of Islamic Sciences.

In addition to having studied Sharia Law at the same university. Also, he was the one who took office as the new leader of the Islamic State in October 2019, after Abu Bakr al Baghdadi died.

By March 2020, the United States had made al-Qurayshi official as one of the most wanted terrorists on its list.

A curious fact about the deceased Islamic man is that before being considered a terrorist, he collaborated as an informant for the United States, revealing everything from identities to maps and exact directions on how to find other terrorists.
