The United States added 22 specialties to the internship program for foreign students.

This program, called STEM Optional Practical Training (OPT), will give students with bachelor's or doctoral degrees in different areas the opportunity to live in the United States for up to 36 months.

The Secretary of Internal Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, announced that this program will guarantee security and protect the country.

Forestry, bioenergy, forest resource production and management, human-centered technological design, mathematical economics, cloud computing, climate science, earth systems science, anthropozoology, economics and computer science.

Among the 22 most notable new fields of study are also: environmental geosciences, geobiology, geography and environmental studies, atmospheric sciences or various specialties in data sciences.

According to Jeremy Robbins, director of the American Immigration Council, this immigration program for students will generate a great economic impact and will be of great help to the United States, since it promotes entrepreneurship.

For some months in the United States there has been a large labor deficit, recruitment problems especially for low-paid jobs, added to this, the pandemic has led to a large rise in retirement, this situation has been called by the experts “The Great Resignation”.

On the other hand, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) is updating the steps to explain to aspiring foreigners how they can use the national interest waiver to obtain a work visa.

This visa would facilitate the process for obtaining a permanent residence visa in the United States.
