Trans activist Thalia Rodríguez was brutally murdered in Tegucigalpa
They demand justice for the brutal murder of Thalia.
This past January 11, the trans activist and defender, Thalia Rodríguez, was murdered in her home located in the neighborhoods at the foot of the Juana Lainez hill. Thalia was originally from the department of Olancho and had lived since she was 2 years old in the city of Tegucigalpa.
Thalia dedicated her life to defending the rights and opportunities for all trans people.
International organizations condemned the murder of the Honduran trans and this Thursday the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights seriously and reliably asked the government to take measures to guarantee the life and rights of every trans woman.
Rommel Martínez, the police director, in charge of the investigations of the case, made some statements to Televicentro and explained the following:
"From the first moment this event occurred, a team dedicated to the case has been deployed. We have a line of investigation, despite the fact that it is a recent case and the investigators are moving along that axis precisely to provide an answer and not allow that this is a case of impunity".
On the other hand, the United Nations Office for Human Rights issued a statement that reproaches these actions.
"That trans women are exposed to trans-hatred and racism that threaten the lives of trans people on a daily basis and also face risks aggravated by violence on a daily basis."
It is important to point out that the activist had a long history working for the rights of trans women, and worked in organizations such as:
Kukulcan Association.
Cattrachas.
Collective, Violet.
Cozumel Trans.
Sensitization in Human Rights.
Leading self-support groups.
Promoting employment alternatives to trans women who had nothing to do with sex work.
In 2021, the Red Lésbica Cattracha organization announced 28 murders of members of the community, and the activist Rodríguez is the second person to defend Human Rights who are murdered.
