The new venue for the Champions League final will be the Stade de France.

This Friday, the Union of European Football Federations (UEFA) met in order to make the decision to change the venue stipulated for the Champions League final and the reason for the transfer is the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The event is planned for Saturday May 28 and the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg was the chosen venue, however, it was decided that the Stade de France (Saint Dennis) is more suitable for the final. In this regard, the Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov said:

"It is a shame that such a decision was made. St. Petersburg could have provided the ideal conditions to hold such a football festival."

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has had an impact on the sports world, especially football, as some commitments have had to be postponed and others definitively suspended in both Russia and Ukraine.

Maria Zajárova, a spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, warned Finland and Sweden of the consequences of joining NATO.

In the same way, it could reach other levels of unleashing a full-scale war with the countries affiliated with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This same Friday, María Zajárova, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated:

"It is clear that the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO, which is above all a military bloc, would have serious political-military consequences, which would require a response from our country."

However, the Russian representative also recognized that Finland has a policy of military non-alignment and based on this, she stressed that it is an “important factor in guaranteeing security in Northern Europe and throughout the European continent”.

But this was not limiting to warn about the growing interaction between the Finnish and Swedish capital with NATO.

"They have held NATO exercises, these countries have offered their territories to bloc exercises in the vicinity of the Russian borders, in which US forces imitated attacks with nuclear weapons against a so-called equivalent adversary," he said.

This reaction of the Russian government is due to the fact that this Friday the 30 leaders of the countries that make up NATO met, along with the representatives of Finland and Sweden as observers, since they do not belong to the alliance.

It should be noted that both countries have expressed their support for Ukraine and belong to the European Union, but not to NATO.
