The incident occurred at the same time that special operations forces from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) were on a military exercise north of Scotland, where more than 50 ships were deployed.

According to the UK Ministry of Defense, the Typhoon planes were sent into the air after the presence of Russian aircraft hovering over British airspace was detected on radar.

In the process, the Russian ships would have changed direction heading north while flying near Norway.

Media have reported that British authorities believed they were escort planes for a bomber plane. The Norwegian authorities reported that they had also detected the presence of the Russian aircraft.

This is the latest incident involving planes from Russia flying near British territory. A similar event took place in September of last year.

Until now, Russia has not commented on this, however, in previous incidents they had insisted that it was a routine patrol.

On Tuesday morning, the British vessel HMS Argyll monitored the activity of three Russian ships as they sailed through the English Channel.

In recent weeks, tensions between Russia and NATO have increased significantly due to the conflict in Ukraine and Russia, where the Russians have deployed more than 100,000 soldiers to the Ukrainian border.
