UK starts vaccination of fourth booster dose
Adults will be able to opt for the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.
In the United Kingdom, people over the age of 75, living in care homes and people who are immunocompromised will receive their second booster dose, six months after their first booster dose.
In scientific evaluations it has been determined that the immunization generated by the vaccines decreases over time.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) of the country was the one who notified the information, detailing that the programs will be kept under review to find out if this reinforcement should be extended to more risk groups.
Sajid Javid, the UK Health Secretary, said immunity is known to wane over time. For this reason, they have made the decision that in the spring, the second booster is applied to people who are at higher risk of becoming seriously ill if they become infected.
The minister also added that this is part of the plan to learn to live with the virus, without any restrictions.
Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, reported the success of the full deployment of vaccines against Covid-19, being an important factor in the reopening of the country's economy.
Adults will be able to choose the injection from Moderna or Pfizer, and young people between the ages of 12 and 18 will only receive the Pfizer.
The president of the JCVI Covid-19 vaccination program, Wei Shen Lima, stressed that the booster vaccinations provided last year have generated excellent protection against the Coronavirus. This is because it maintains very high levels of protection, especially for the most vulnerable people.
