In 2017, Ed Sheraan's fans accused him of plagiarism. They assured that 'Shape of you' has a verse similar to 'No Scrubs' from TLC.

According to the Billboard network, the singer did not cause unnecessary stir and gave credit to Kevin Briggs, Mando Burrus and Tameka Cottle.

Rihanna

The celebrity was sued by photographer David LaChapelle for copying eight of her photos into the S&M video.

The accusation was because LaChapelle assured that the theme, colors, lighting and decoration were his responsibility and demanded 1 million dollars.

The singer offered him an out-of-court settlement and the singer accepted. The amount canceled is not public knowledge.

Justin Bieber

White Hinterland claimed that Bieber's hit song 'Sorry' features parts of his song 'Ring The Bell'. For this reason, he decided to sue the producer Skrillez and the song's co-writers Michael Tucker, Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter.

The TMZ news portal reported that Hinterland gave up the lawsuit. Until now, the reasons why he made this decision are not known.

The Beatles

The song 'Come Together' was accused of having similar parts to Chuck Betty's song 'You Can't Catch Me'. The two settled out of court and moved on.

Katy Perry

The singer accepted that his song 'Sombody That I used to know' was a plagiarism of the song by Brazilian artist Luis Bonfà, 'Seville'.

J Balvin

The singer was accused of allegedly copying the song "Do You Ting" in his theme 'Loco contigo'. For this reason, the Panamanian Society of Authors and Composers (SPAC), decided to freeze the royalties of the Colombian in said country, until obtaining results of this problem.

However, Balvin, in collaboration with Sech, Nicky Jam, Natti Natasha, Ozuna and Darell, made a remix of this song, which was also included in the lawsuit.

Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke

A Los Angeles court sentenced Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke to pay Marvin Gaye $7.3 million for the phrase "Got to give it up" on the song Blirred Lines.

Vanity Fair assured that this is the highest fine for violating copyright in the music industry, in all history.

Jay Z

Jay Z has been accused many times for plagiarism. The most famous case was the one of 'Big pimpin'.

On this occasion, the one who made the complaint was Osama Fahmy, the nephew of Baligh Hamdi, alleging that Jay Z copied the sound of the oriental flute that was created for her film 'Khosara Khosara'.

Jay Z's lawyers contacted the EMI Arabia record label, which owns the rights to the film, and proceeded to pay him a sum of $100,000.

Hamdi's heirs were in charge of receiving the sum of money.

Shakira

Queen fans claimed that the single 'Ice Ice Baby' was similar to 'Under Pressure'. Despite the close resemblance, inspiration based on the Queen theme was denied.

However, the group Queen and David Bowie, received a payment as a profit from the success generated, in addition to the credits in the song. The Vanilla Ice theme was very famous in 1989.

Bruno Mars

DJ Breakbot, from France, published on his social networks the resemblance between 'Treasure' by Bruno Mars and his song 'Baby I'm Yours'.

This case did not go to court, since the DJ told the media before that this song was an inspiration for Bruno Mars.

Black Eyed Peas

DJ Adam Freeland posted on Twitter that the song 'Party All The Time' bears a resemblance to 'Mancry'. The lawyers of both groups got in touch and assured that it was a lack of legal documentation in which the rights were accredited.

Amaral

The guitar beat in his song 'All Night on the Street' is the same as the David Bowie song 'Rebel, Rebel'.

The followers were in charge of making the comparisons between both subjects in the social networks.

Pitbull

Through social networks, fans of the Jamaican group Chaka Demus & Pliers complained that the song 'El Taxi' is a plagiarism of the 1992 song 'Murder She Wrote'. Pitbull's song was very successful and was positioned in the first places of popularity.

Ray Parker Jr.

The case of the lawsuit by Huey Lewis towards Parker, was for the song 'Ghostbusters', which according to Lewis is a plagiarism of his song 'I want a New Drug'. Parker's song was famous as part of the movie 'Ghostbusters', being the main theme.

Although the case was taken to court, both parties reached an out-of-court settlement, the details of which are not known.

Michael Jackson

In an appeal, and a settlement by both parties, it was held that Jackson's song 'Will You be there' and Italian Al Bano's song 'I cigni de Balaka' were original songs and had a structural similarity.

This result was obtained after the similarity was seen in court and a fine of 4 million pounds was imposed on Michael Jackson.

Coldplay

The band was sued by Joe Satriani, who claimed that they copied the beat from 'If I Could Fly' on the track 'Viva la Vida'.

For this reason, they decided to reach an economic agreement between both parties, and in this way the case did not reach court.

Olivia Rodrigo

According to fans, Olivia Rodrigo's song 'Good for u' bears a resemblance to the Paramore song 'Misery Business'. Following this observation, Paramore's advertising company, Warner Chapoell Music, reported that the band's former guitarist and singer were credited as co-writers of the song, without the need to go to court.

However, the French Orlan denounced the singer for copying her aesthetic image, for which she demanded the sum of 23 million euros.

The lawsuit did not proceed and finally, the defendant received a payment order of 6 thousand dollars to Universal Music Group Recording and Universal Music France and the amount of 12 thousand dollars to Gaga, for legal expenses.

Radiohead

The song 'Creep' is one of his most famous songs in the group. This is a plagiarism of the song written by Mike Hazlewood and Albert Hammond, 'The Air That I Breath'.

Both managed to prove plagiarism and were listed as co-authors of the song and receiving profits from the success of the song.

Luis Miguel
