TikTok will allow the publication of videos with a duration of 10 minutes.

Launched in 2016, TikTok came to revolutionize the world of social networks, causing its competitors to try to emulate its format to attract more audience, as happened with the case of Instagram and the creation of Reels.

Now, it seems to be the turn of the Chinese app to adapt to already established platforms such as YouTube and want to compete directly.

This is how the video application will now allow its content creators to publish audiovisuals of up to 10 minutes in length.

With this new update, the platform developed by the ByteDance company hopes to give users more creative space, according to a spokesperson for the Asian company. “Last year we introduced longer videos, giving our community more time to create and be entertained on TikTok,” he said.

In this sense, the social media consultant, Matt Navarra, has been one of the first to disclose the information related to the update and has also said that TikTok has been testing the time limit of the videos in the last 18 months.

Navarra points out that the Chinese company 's commitment to videos with longer formats would be related to the ease of being able to monetize them, keeping people longer within the application.

Additionally, it questions whether this expansion has any link with the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the need for users to create/search for more informative content with a citizen journalism format.

In its beginnings, TikTok allowed the publication of videos of a maximum of 15 seconds, later they increased the duration to one minute and by July 2021 they already offered the possibility of publishing three-minute audiovisuals.
